New Scholarship Program for Multicultural and Foreign Families
100 Scholarship Recipients to Be Selected in the First Half of the Year... Applications Open Until June 9
Junggu District in Seoul is further strengthening its tailored scholarship programs aimed at discovering and nurturing local talent. On May 16, the Junggu Talent Development Scholarship Foundation announced that it had finalized the scholarship selection plan for the first half of this year at the '2nd Board of Directors Meeting of 2025' held on May 12, and that it will introduce a new scholarship program for students from multicultural and foreign families.
In 2025, at the 2nd Board of Directors meeting of the Junggu Talent Development Scholarship Foundation, Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Junggu District, Seoul, is speaking. Provided by Junggu.
For the first time this year, the foundation will select 16 outstanding students from multicultural and foreign backgrounds and provide a total of 13.6 million won in scholarships. Eligible students must have resided in Junggu for at least one year, be currently enrolled in a middle or high school located in Junggu, and have ranked in the top 30% of their most recent semester. Selection will be made based on recommendations from school principals.
The foundation has also expanded the support for the overseas cultural experience program, "Challenge! Global Exploration Team." The previous support of 5 million won per student has been increased to full coverage starting this year, completely eliminating the financial burden for participants.
This program selects 10 first- and second-year high school students who have lived in Junggu for at least one year, offering them the opportunity to visit prestigious universities on the East Coast of the United States and interact with local students in January next year. The itinerary includes visits to major institutions such as Harvard University, MIT, and Yale University.
In the first half of this year, the foundation will select 100 elementary, middle, and high school students within the district as scholarship recipients, providing a total of 79.1 million won in scholarships. Applications will be accepted from May 26 to June 9, and final selection and scholarship disbursement will take place after a review process in June and July.
Park Jangseon, Chairman of the Junggu Talent Development Scholarship Foundation, stated, "Through this board meeting, we have meaningfully expanded the foundation's reach and improved the system so that more students can receive practical support. I am also pleased that the increasing number of students from multicultural and foreign families will now be able to benefit from our scholarship programs."
Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Junggu District, added, "Our scholarship program will serve as a strong pillar for students, broadening their perspectives, helping them discover their potential, and nurturing their dreams. I look forward to seeing the foundation become even more active through its new project, 'Connecting Dreams, Connecting Hope,' and to achieving positive outcomes in discovering and nurturing outstanding talent in Junggu."
