Audit Report on "Inspection of Public Office Corruption Including Disciplinary Information" Released by the Board of Audit and Inspection

An employee of the Jungbu Regional Tax Office was found to have embezzled approximately 67 million won in government funds, including welfare expenses, as a result of an audit.

On May 15, the Board of Audit and Inspection released an audit report titled "Inspection of Public Office Corruption Including Disciplinary Information," and announced that it had requested the dismissal of the employee who embezzled government funds worth 67.12 million won by making excessive, duplicate, and false claims for welfare expenses.

According to the report, employee A of the Jungbu Regional Tax Office, while handling welfare expense disbursements from September 2018 to September 2019, inflated the disbursement amount by making excessive, duplicate, and false claims, then transferred the funds to his own account, embezzling 22.65 million won.

From September 2018 to December 2019, he also embezzled an additional 17.39 million won in the same manner while handling the disbursement of employee information data collection fees.

Between May and December 2019, A used the government purchase card to pay for meals and entertainment at restaurants and bars near the office over a period of 54 days, without working any overtime, and used 27.08 million won in special overtime meal allowances for personal purposes.

The Board of Audit and Inspection stated, "We have requested the National Tax Service to dismiss A, who embezzled approximately 67.12 million won in government funds, and have notified that the misconduct of Team Leader B, who approved documents submitted by A without proper review or verification, should be used as a reference for future personnel decisions."
