The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on May 16 that it will conduct intensive safety inspections of rural tourism facilities?including rural experience and recreation villages, tourism farms, rural homestays, and rural tourism and recreation complexes?until July 11, just before the start of the peak summer vacation season.
Local governments and safety specialist companies with professional personnel will conduct inspections concurrently. To ensure effective inspections, on-site joint inspections will also be carried out with the participation of related organizations such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, local governments, and the Korea Rural Community Corporation. The plan is to use a safety checklist to inspect fire safety facilities, evacuation and fire prevention facilities, gas and electricity systems, and experience and other facilities at rural tourism sites.
A representative from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "As the number of visitors to rural tourism facilities has increased from 9.28 million in 2022 to 11.58 million in 2024, we are taking proactive steps to inspect safety and operational practices." The representative added, "Through these efforts, we aim to ensure that the public can enjoy rural tourism in a safer and more pleasant environment."
On the afternoon of May 16, Park Sujin, Director General for Planning and Coordination at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, is scheduled to visit the rural experience and recreation village (Mulan Ddeul Village) and the tourism farm (Hyu Mirak) in Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk, to conduct safety inspections of rural tourism facilities. Park emphasized, "In order for visitors to feel confident and choose these destinations, it is essential to pay close attention to safety management at all times so that the perception of rural tourism facilities as being safe can spread further." Park also urged, "Especially with the upcoming summer vacation season, I hope that everyone will do their utmost to ensure the safety management of facilities for safe rural tourism."
