Around 12:05 p.m. that day, it is reported that Jang Sunwoo, a female campaign worker, witnessed the elderly man sitting on a bench across from the park suddenly fall forward. She rushed over and performed CPR.
Jang shouted to other campaign workers at the scene to "call 119" while administering CPR. Then, councilor Noh Yeonwoo of Dongdaemun District took over and continued CPR, after which the elderly man reportedly regained consciousness.
This incident came to public attention when former lawmaker Min Byungdoo posted about it on his Facebook page on May 14.
Jang Sunwoo recorded the scene on her mobile phone and sent it to former lawmaker Min Byungdoo, who then shared it in the Dongdaemun District Committee's KakaoTalk group chat, making the story known to the public.
As the news spread, councilor Noh Yeonwoo explained the sequence of events in the group chat, stating, "Yesterday, while campaigning at the neighborhood park, campaign worker Jang Sunwoo discovered an elderly man collapsing, performed CPR, and then I continued CPR. Former lawmaker Min Kyungok called 119, and when the firefighters arrived, they confirmed that the elderly man had regained consciousness." Noh added, "Thanks to the efforts of the Team 6 members, we were able to save a precious life."
After this news was reported by the media, candidate Lee Jaemyung also posted on social media, praising the incident and emphasizing that politics is about saving lives.
