On May 14 at Ladena Golf Club (par 72, 6,384 yards) in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, Yeawon Lee defeated Hyunji Hong by three holes in the second group stage match of the 17th Doosan Match Play on the KLPGA Tour (total prize money: 1 billion KRW). Having beaten Yeonjeong Seo the previous day, Yeawon Lee now has two consecutive wins (2 points) in the group stage. She will compete with Gabin Choi, who defeated Yeonjeong Seo by one hole (1 win, 1 draw, 1.5 points), for a spot in the round of 16.
In Doosan Match Play, 64 players are divided into 16 groups of four for the group stage, after which the top player from each group advances to the round of 16, where the winner is determined by a knockout format. The winner’s prize is 250 million KRW. A win earns 1 point, a draw 0.5 points, and a loss 0 points.
Yeawon Lee took an early lead by winning the 1st, 2nd, and 4th holes. After winning the 10th hole with a par, she lost the 11th hole with a bogey. On the 15th hole (par 5), Yeawon Lee made a birdie to extend her lead over Hyunji Hong to four holes. Last week, Yeawon Lee claimed her second win of the season and the eighth of her career at the NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship.
