On May 15, Jeollanamdo announced the opening of the 20th Jeollanamdo Senior Citizens Sports Festival in Yeonggwang. The event, which aims to promote senior health and vibrant living in the era of an aging society, will run for two days.

This year's festival brings together more than 2,300 senior athletes from 22 cities and counties in Jeollanamdo, as well as the Gyeongbuk Sports Exchange Group. The event serves as a venue for both competition and unity. Now in its 20th year, the festival has firmly established itself as the region's leading sports event for seniors.

The opening ceremony was held on May 15 at the Yeonggwang Sportium Indoor Gymnasium. The competition will take place at nine venues across Yeonggwang, featuring nine sports: gateball, ground golf, badminton, gymnastics, soft tennis, mountaineering, archery, table tennis, and park golf.

Notably, the Gyeongbuk Sports Exchange Group is participating with a delegation of about 80 members, competing in six sports including gateball and ground golf, thereby strengthening friendship and exchange between the Yeongnam and Honam regions.

Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanamdo, stated, "Jeollanamdo leads the nation in senior welfare policies. Through this festival, we hope to lay the foundation for healthy aging and regional unity," adding, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure that seniors enjoy a happy life."
