To Raise Awareness of Population Decline
and Build Social Consensus
Song Hacheol, president of National Mokpo University, recently participated in the "Population Issue Awareness Improvement Relay Campaign," organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resources Development Institute for Health and Welfare. This relay campaign was designed to raise awareness about the seriousness of population decline caused by low birth rates and an aging society, and to build a broad social consensus on the issue.
The campaign aims to highlight the severity of population decline resulting from low birth rates and an aging population, and to foster a wide-ranging societal consensus. Starting with Lee Kiil, the First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, local governments, public institutions, and private organizations have been joining the campaign in succession. President Song joined the campaign after being nominated by Jeong Sin, director of Chonnam National University Hospital.

He added, "National Mokpo University will work in solidarity with the local community to create an environment where young people can settle down, and will propose practical solutions to overcome the population crisis."
National Mokpo University is contributing to building a sustainable local community by implementing a variety of youth support projects, including the declaration of a culture and arts-centered university, a 1,000-won premium breakfast buffet, university district revitalization projects, the Kkuljaem Campus initiative, and employment-linked and entrepreneurship support programs.
Meanwhile, President Song Hacheol nominated Kim San, governor of Muan County, and Han Wonhee, president of National Mokpo Maritime University, as the next participants in the campaign, emphasizing, "When regional leaders work together in cooperation, we can find clues to solving the population issue."
