Gwangju City is holding a "Love Blood Donation Campaign with Public Officials and Citizens" for two days, from May 15 to 16, in a blood donation bus in front of the administrative building at City Hall.

This campaign was organized to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratization Movement and to carry on the spirit of sharing life, which was demonstrated by the voluntary blood donations of citizens in May 1980.

The city, together with the Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Center of the Korean Red Cross, the Gwangju City Council, the 5·18 Event Committee, and blood donation promotion ambassadors, also held a performance encouraging participation in blood donation. Through this, they honored the noble spirit of 5·18 and reaffirmed the value of sharing life.

Gwangju City and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Center have held the "Public Officials' Love Blood Donation Campaign" every year, and over the past three years, 3,122 public officials and citizens have participated in group blood donations.

Citizens who have their address in Gwangju and have donated blood at least 10 times within the past five years are eligible for a two-year reduction in usage fees for facilities such as sports centers and parking lots operated by the city.

Jung Younghwa, Director of Welfare and Health, said, "Blood donation is a noble act that saves the lives of patients in need of transfusions and is a true practice of love," adding, "We will continue to promote a culture of blood donation and contribute to making Gwangju a warmer community."
