Muju County in North Jeolla Province will conduct regular inspections of 181 livestock farms that have obtained permits or are registered, aiming to strengthen the competitiveness of the livestock industry by November.

According to the county on May 15, the inspections have been arranged to prevent livestock infectious diseases, ensure the safety of livestock products, and prevent environmental pollution.

The county will check whether each farm meets the requirements for livestock business permits and registration, whether farms comply with obligations such as having disinfection and quarantine facilities, whether those engaged in livestock-related work have completed mandatory training, and whether breeding density standards are being observed. In cases where violations are found, strict action will be taken in accordance with relevant laws (the Livestock Industry Act).

Lee Eunchang, head of the Agricultural Policy Division at the Muju County Agricultural Technology Center, said, "Recently, environmental complaints about livestock farms have been increasing, and the threats of livestock infectious diseases such as avian influenza and African swine fever continue, so thorough inspections are necessary."

He added, "Through legal and systematic management of livestock farming, we will do our best to protect the living environment of county residents and produce high-quality livestock products befitting Muju, the Special City of Nature."

Before the inspections begin, the county will send advance notices to the targeted farms, and during the inspections, it will also listen to on-site opinions from livestock farmers to reflect them in livestock policies.
