Improved Recycling Efficiency and Job Creation
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province announced on May 15 that it has completed a contract with an operating and management company for the 'Resource Recovery Center,' which was completed in December last year to more efficiently process recyclable resources, and that the center has begun full-scale operations this month.
The Resource Recovery Center is a single-story building with a total floor area of 1,578 square meters and can process 10 tons of recyclables per day. The total project cost was 4.6 billion won, with 1.4 billion won from the national government, 500 million won from the provincial government, and 2.7 billion won from the county budget.
With the start of operations, the Recovery Center is equipped with automated facilities such as a ballistic separator and an optical sorter, significantly improving the recycling sorting process, which was previously mainly manual.
Recyclables that have undergone automated sorting are compressed and weighed before being shipped out, which is expected to enhance both the efficiency and safety of the work process. In addition, the center is equipped with shower facilities, changing rooms, and break rooms to further improve convenience for workers. The workforce consists of 16 people, including the six employees who previously worked at the recycling sorting facility and newly hired local residents, thereby contributing to local job creation.
An official from the county stated, "The introduction of automated sorting facilities will increase the recycling rate and improve the efficiency of resource circulation," adding, "We will continue to manage the center so that workers can work in a safe and pleasant environment."
