World Vision, an international relief and development NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) led by President Cho Myunghwan, announced on May 14 that it held a handover ceremony at Cheongsong County Office in Gyeongbuk to provide emergency relief for the large-scale wildfire damage in the Gyeongbuk region, delivering approximately 900 million won worth of supplies and emergency aid funds.
After consulting with Cheongsong County following the large wildfire, World Vision plans to provide a total of 500 million won to 500 affected households for living expenses and the purchase of home appliances and furniture for children and displaced residents. In addition, on April 16, through the Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education, World Vision provided a total of 58 million won to 22 households with children and youth whose homes were completely destroyed and 3 households whose homes were partially destroyed in the Cheongsong area. Furthermore, from March 27 to the present, World Vision has supplied a total of about 6,580 relief items to the Cheongsong area, including 1,365 emergency relief kits, 1,300 clothing sets, 1,300 underwear sets, approximately 1,350 emergency relief blankets donated by Youngone Trading, 400 bags, and 865 medical supplies, amounting to a total value of 350 million won. After the emergency aid funds are distributed, World Vision plans to provide psychological and emotional support kits and psychological therapy programs to help children’s households in Cheongsong achieve full recovery.
Yoon Kyunghee, Governor of Cheongsong County, stated, "Currently, about 787 homes have been reported as either completely or partially destroyed. It will take time for affected residents to return to their daily lives, and much help is needed." She added, "I deeply appreciate World Vision for their cooperation and everyone who has readily extended a helping hand."
Jeon Kwangseok, Director of the World Vision Daegu Gyeongbuk Business Headquarters, said, "Because so many people came together, we were able to provide the necessary support to the affected areas one by one. We will continue our efforts to help children and displaced residents in Cheongsong return to their normal lives."
