Hangeulnuri Foundation to Host "Hangeul Festa 2025"

First Introduction of the "Nuri Hangeul Romanization Proposal"

The Hangeulnuri Foundation announced on May 15 that it will host the "Hangeul Festa 2025," a video contest inviting people from around the world to use Hangeul together. Now in its third year, "Hangeul Festa" is a competition where participants create videos transcribing songs and stories from various languages into Hangeul. Anyone who is not Korean can participate. Kyungdong Navien is supporting Hangeulnuri to promote the wider use of Hangeul.

This year's "Hangeul Festa 2025" introduces a new category that applies the "Nuri Hangeul Romanization Proposal" suggested by Hangeulnuri. The "Nuri Hangeul Romanization Proposal" is a system developed by Hangeulnuri that allows various world languages to be written phonetically using Hangeul, based on the original principles of Hunminjeongeum. To represent the sounds of different languages, Hangeulnuri has restored and symbolized old Hunminjeongeum characters that are not currently in use, making it possible to write sounds not found in Korean. This year, the system will be applied to four languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, and Japanese, with plans to expand to more languages in the future.

The contest will run for three months until August 15, and the winners will be announced on the official website on October 1.
