Gwangju Namgu District is encouraging residents to exercise their voting rights ahead of the 21st presidential election by employing various methods, such as adding voting participation guidance to the phone call waiting messages for civil service calls and providing self-produced Shorts videos.
According to Namgu District on May 15, with the presidential election just 19 days away, a multifaceted campaign is underway in the region to encourage voter participation.
In connection with the presidential election scheduled for June 3, the district has prepared several promotional strategies to realize national sovereignty, after prior consultation with the Election Commission. First, the district is broadcasting a real-time promotional video on the media wall in front of the district office, informing residents that citizens directly elect those who decide important national matters.
Additionally, before election day, the district will send out three rounds of voting encouragement text messages in the name of the local government to eligible voters in the area. The district will also set up voting participation photo zones at three locations, including the promenade in Pureungil Park behind BIXPO in Juwol-dong, which sees heavy foot traffic.
Starting from May 16 until election day, all phones at the district office and the 17 administrative welfare centers in each neighborhood will feature call waiting messages with information on the election schedule and participation. For residents of Daechon-dong, an area with limited transportation, the district will also provide convenience vehicles supported by the Election Commission to facilitate their participation in voting.
The district plans to post various voting-related materials provided by the National Election Commission on its website and social network services (SNS), and will produce three Shorts videos featuring district office staff for a relay publicity campaign. In addition, it is expected that 17 autonomous organizations in the district, as well as local community groups such as residents' representative meetings, will also join efforts to encourage voter participation.
A district official stated, "We are conducting a multifaceted campaign to encourage participation in the presidential election in order to create a beautiful and happy country, which is the hope of all of us," adding, "The world we desire begins with our choices, and that beginning lies in exercising our right to vote."
