Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on May 15 that it has been selected as the top institution in this year's Gyeonggi Province city and county contract audit evaluation. As a result, Osan City has been recognized as an outstanding institution for six consecutive years, from 2020 through this year.
The 'contract audit' is a system in which local governments conduct a preliminary review of the appropriateness of projects before entering into various contracts, such as for construction, services, and goods procurement, in order to prevent budget waste and ensure fiscal soundness.
This evaluation was conducted by Gyeonggi Province, which comprehensively analyzed and assessed the contract audit performance of 31 cities and counties over the past year. Osan City explained that it received high marks for saving 1.2 billion won in budget and for demonstrating fairness and expertise throughout the entire contract process.
The city added that it has made multifaceted efforts to operate a robust contract audit system, including establishing audit criteria that reflect the characteristics of each contract, building a collaborative system with relevant departments, and strengthening specialized training for practitioners.
Lee Gwonjae, Mayor of Osan, stated, "We will continue to realize efficient budget management through institutional improvements and capacity building."
