Business Agreement Signed with Ministry of Environment, Kakao, Maeil Dairies, and Hansol Paper
Establishment of a Permanent Doorstep Collection System... Coupons and Rewards Offered
CJ Logistics has established a nationwide permanent collection system for paper cartons, promoting everyday recycling by utilizing its 'O-NE' logistics network.
On May 15, CJ Logistics announced that it had signed a "Pilot Project Agreement for Paper Carton Collection via Online Platforms" at Hansol Paper's Daejeon plant, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Kakao, Maeil Dairies, and Hansol Paper.
This project involves collecting and recycling paper cartons and aseptic cartons generated by households across the country, using the O-NE delivery network during the collection process. If residents place paper cartons in a box at their doorstep and request collection through the Kakao Makers app, a CJ Logistics delivery driver will visit and collect them.
As the cumulative number of collected cartons increases, participants will receive rewards such as coupons or dairy products. Those wishing to participate can do so by clicking "Participate" on the "Saegabeochi" page within the Kakao Makers app starting at 5:00 p.m. on May 19.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Environment will establish the institutional framework to ensure systematic collection and encourage public participation. Kakao will operate a dedicated page within Kakao Makers. Maeil Dairies will provide its own product rewards to promote active participation. Hansol Paper will recycle the collected paper cartons into high-quality paper materials.
Paper cartons and aseptic cartons must be separated from general paper waste and placed in designated collection bins. However, as this fact is not widely known and many locations lack dedicated collection bins, the recycling rate was only 13% as of 2023. By using the parcel delivery network that households already utilize, the recycling rate is expected to increase significantly.
The organizers anticipate that a total of 200 tons of paper cartons will be collected through this project over the next two years. This is equivalent to the resource circulation effect of protecting approximately 4,000 pine trees.
Previously, since 2023, CJ Logistics has collected and recycled a total of 107 tons of paper cartons through a resource circulation project targeting more than 10,000 daycare centers nationwide.
Yoon Jin, Head of Korea Business Division at CJ Logistics, stated, "By combining CJ Logistics' O-NE infrastructure, we have established a foundation that enables anyone across the country to easily participate in resource circulation in daily life. Moving forward, we will continue to collaborate with various partners to expand the value of logistics for the environment and the community."
