A group of individuals who demanded money from Son Heungmin, captain of the national football team, in exchange for not disclosing claims that one of them was pregnant with his child, has been apprehended by the police.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on May 15 that they had arrested and are investigating a woman in her 20s, identified as A, and a man in his 40s, identified as B, on charges of extortion and attempted extortion, respectively.
According to Son Heungmin's representatives, A and others attempted to extort money by falsely claiming pregnancy. A formal complaint was filed with the police on May 7.
According to the police, A is accused of attempting to extort money from Son Heungmin by threatening him in June of last year, claiming she was pregnant with his child. In March of this year, B, an acquaintance of A, allegedly approached Son Heungmin's side in an attempt to obtain money as well.
On May 12, the police applied for arrest warrants for the suspects, and the court issued the warrants the following afternoon.
