"We Will Maintain a Flawless Security Operation Posture"
On May 15, the Presidential Security Service announced that it has completed the formation of the Security and Safety Control Group, which will oversee all aspects of security and safety for the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju this October.
The Security and Safety Control Group will be responsible for the personal safety of delegations, including heads of state, as well as the security management of all summit venues, accommodations, and airports.
Having begun preliminary preparations last October, the Security and Safety Control Group is organized into six headquarters: the Security and Safety Planning and Coordination Office, the Security Operations Headquarters, the Counterterrorism Intelligence Support Headquarters, the Police Operations Headquarters, the Military Operations Headquarters, the Firefighting Operations Headquarters, and the Coast Guard Operations Headquarters.
Unlike in the past, the Security and Safety Control Group plans to expand its security management scope for this year’s APEC Summit to cover all event schedules, including multilateral summit meetings attended by leaders of the 21 member economies, senior officials’ meetings, business events, and side events.
An Kyungho, Acting Chief of the Presidential Security Service, stated, “From the moment each country’s heads of state, delegations, ministers, and economic leaders enter Korean airspace until their departure, we will maintain a flawless security operation posture through an organic and unified command system involving the six operational headquarters and related security agencies.”
