Real-Time Patient Monitoring and Rapid Information Sharing
The Daejeon city government announced that it will implement the "Emergency Room Surveillance System for Heat-Related Illnesses" starting from May 15 in order to minimize health risks to citizens caused by heat waves.
This surveillance system is designed to monitor, in real time, emergency room visits by patients suffering from heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and heat exhaustion, enabling a swift response.
The system is operated through cooperation among the Daejeon city government, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, five district health centers, and ten emergency medical institutions. In the event of a heat wave, these organizations will share information closely and collaborate to respond immediately.
In particular, since heat waves are forecasted to arrive earlier than usual this year, the city is strengthening its efforts to promote preventive measures to citizens, such as refraining from excessive outdoor activities and ensuring adequate hydration.
Additionally, comprehensive measures to respond to heat waves are being implemented, including the operation of cooling shelters and enhanced home health care visits for vulnerable groups.
Jung Taeyoung, Director of Sports and Health at the Daejeon city government, stated, "Heat-related illnesses can be fully prevented simply by following basic guidelines," and urged citizens to pay special attention to their health whenever heat wave advisories are issued.
