Cheongyang County Accelerates Efforts to Become "Park Golf Mecca" with Provincial Park Golf Course and Vitality Town Projects

Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province has begun earnest efforts to become the "Park Golf Mecca of Korea."

On May 15, Cheongyang County announced that it is constructing the Chungnam Provincial Park Golf Course on the site of the former Gubong Mine in Guryong-ri, Namyang-myeon (233,619 square meters), aiming for an opening in 2026.

This park golf course, which will feature a total of 108 holes, will also include a specialized education center. The county projects that the facility will attract approximately 400,000 users and 18,000 trainees annually.

The education center will serve as a national hub, offering ongoing programs such as qualification exams for instructors and referees, refresher courses, and training sessions throughout the year.

The county expects this to generate more than 30 billion won in direct and indirect economic effects annually.

In addition, the "Vitality Town" project, with a total budget of 25 billion won (3 billion won from the national government, 8.5 billion won from the provincial government, and 13.5 billion won from the county), will be built on a 31,047 square meter site. It will feature a local food market, youth startup spaces (including restaurants and accommodations), an all-season family park golf experience center, and a senior citizens' national sports center.

Vitality Town is expected to enhance visitor convenience while also serving as a complex hub that promotes sustainable local economic revitalization and job creation.

The 18-hole park golf course that opened last September along the Geumgang River in Wangjin-ri, Cheongnam-myeon, has been bustling with visitors every day.

The Geumgang Riverside Park Golf Course is popular among both local residents and members from other regions, thanks to its challenging layout for intermediate and advanced players and its scenic views of the Geumgang River.

On May 19, the 1st Daejeon University President's Cup Park Golf Tournament will be held, with around 200 residents from the Chungcheong region expected to participate.

For this tournament, the county has thoroughly inspected the facilities and strengthened safety management systems. On the day of the event, the Cheongnam-myeon Residents' Association will also operate a booth selling local specialty products, contributing to increased income for local farmers.

County Governor Kim Dongon stated, "I hope that many people who visit Cheongyang will experience the region's nature and spirit through park golf," adding, "We will continue to attract various sports and exchange events to further boost the local economy and tourism."

Cheongyang County is steadily laying the foundation to grow as a sustainable sports tourism city by hosting regular tournaments and linking tourism resources based on its park golf courses.
