EcoAquaFarm and Tidepool Collaborate to Introduce Vision AI Smart Aquaculture Technology

Introduction of South Korea's First Land-Based Atlantic Salmon Aquaculture Facility

On May 15, aquaculture and fisheries artificial intelligence (AI) technology startup Tidepool announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for smart aquaculture technology cooperation with EcoAquaFarm, a subsidiary of GS Engineering & Construction, to apply vision AI technology to Atlantic salmon. The signing ceremony took place at the EcoAquaFarm headquarters in Gijang, Busan.

EcoAquaFarm operates South Korea's first eco-friendly land-based salmon aquaculture facility using a closed recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Tidepool is a fisheries and aquaculture technology startup founded in 2022.

Atlantic salmon is a high value-added fish species that has previously relied entirely on imports. As domestic consumption continues to grow, there is a growing need for new aquaculture methods to ensure supply stability and food safety. In response, EcoAquaFarm completed a land-based aquaculture facility using an RAS in December last year and began full-scale operations, aiming to overcome the limitations of offshore farming and establish a stable production system.

Through this agreement, the two companies plan to accelerate the development and implementation of technologies to enable smart Atlantic salmon aquaculture. In particular, Tidepool is considering the application of its AI-based smart aquaculture solution, FISHSCOPE, to monitor and optimize fish growth at EcoAquaFarm's RAS facility. The companies also plan to gradually carry out various technology demonstrations and further advancements in the future.
