Dongdaemun-gu Receives Prime Minister's Commendation in Comprehensive Civil Service Evaluation

Ranked First Among All Local Districts Nationwide... Highly Praised as a Model of Field-Oriented Civil Service Administration
Selected as an Outstanding Institution for Six Consecutive Years Since 2017

Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Pilhyeong) received the Prime Minister's Commendation after achieving the highest score among all local districts nationwide in the "2024 Comprehensive Civil Service Evaluation," jointly conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.

The Comprehensive Civil Service Evaluation is conducted annually for 307 institutions nationwide (47 central administrative agencies, 17 metropolitan and provincial offices of education, 17 metropolitan governments, and 226 basic local governments). Since 2017, Dongdaemun-gu has been selected as an outstanding institution for six consecutive years. This year, it ranked first among all local districts, earning the highest honor.

In this evaluation, Dongdaemun-gu received high marks for providing customized civil services for socially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities; strengthening organizational protective measures for civil service staff; and implementing legal responses to unusual civil complaints. Notably, by relocating the Samcheolli Briquette Plant, which had remained in the urban residential area for a long time and caused inconvenience to residents, the district resolved a chronic civil complaint and dramatically improved the residential environment.

In addition, Dongdaemun-gu was highly praised as a model of field-oriented civil administration for its fair and in-depth handling of complex and sensitive grievances through the Citizen Ombudsman System, and for directly visiting sites such as traditional markets to listen to and address the concerns of small business owners through the "Mobile National Sinmungo" program in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
