Emphasizing Safety Measures
in Preparation for Increased Spring Travelers
Lee Juho Acting Director Inspects Maintenance Status Before Aircraft Takeoff at Jeju International Airport Yonhap News
On May 14, Lee Juho, Acting President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Education, visited Jeju Airport to inspect safety facilities in preparation for the increase in spring air travelers and to encourage workers at the control tower and maintenance sites.
Acting President Lee emphasized that the government, which supervises aviation safety; airport operators, who are responsible for managing airport facilities; and airlines, which operate the aircraft, must each faithfully fulfill their respective roles.
After visiting the control tower and receiving a report on its operations, Acting President Lee checked the progress of the new Jeju Airport control tower construction. He also encouraged staff members, including air traffic controllers working in two shifts around the clock, and urged them to carry out their duties with the firm determination that not a single minor accident related to safety will be tolerated.
At the apron, Acting President Lee inspected the maintenance status of aircraft before takeoff and asked maintenance personnel on site to conduct thorough pre-flight checks and maintenance.
He added, "As the number of travelers using aircraft is expected to increase and both the airport and air routes are likely to become more congested, please manage safety thoroughly," and stated that the government would spare no necessary support.
