Vehicles Under 4.5 Tons Allowed
Improved Surrounding Traffic Conditions
On May 13, Yeonggwang County in South Jeolla Province held an opening ceremony for the Bulgapsan Highpass IC (Seoul), which connects to the rest area on the Seohaean Expressway in Hakjeong-ri, Yeonggwang-eup, Yeonggwang County.
Approximately 150 people attended the ceremony, including National Assembly member Lee Gaeho, Yeonggwang County Governor Jang Seil, Yeonggwang County Council Chairman Kim Kangheon, Korea Expressway Corporation Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Headquarters Director Kim Junyoung, and representatives of local residents.
The newly opened Bulgapsan Highpass IC (Seoul) has been available for use by vehicles under 4.5 tons equipped with a Highpass terminal since 3:00 p.m. on May 13. The total project cost was approximately 11.3 billion KRW.
With this opening, both directions are now accessible, together with the Bulgapsan Highpass IC (Mokpo), which opened in December 2021. This allows for non-stop entry and exit in both northbound and southbound lanes, significantly improving not only the surrounding traffic conditions but also the accessibility and utility of the Seohaean Expressway.
Yeonggwang County Governor Jang Seil stated, "With the opening of the Bulgapsan Highpass IC, we can now provide visitors to our region with a faster and safer transportation environment, which will create a significant synergy effect for the revitalization of the local economy and tourism industry." He added, "The transportation conditions for products from local businesses and those in agriculture and fisheries will also improve, which is expected to greatly contribute to strengthening the overall industrial competitiveness of the region."
