South Jeolla Province Establishes Strategy to Foster Future Mobility Industry in Solaseado

On May 14, the South Jeolla Provincial Government held a kick-off briefing at the provincial office to launch the "Solaseado Future Mobility Industry Development Strategy Research Project," aimed at establishing strategies to respond to the industrial transformation toward future vehicles such as electric vehicles and autonomous vehicles.

The research project will focus on developing plans to establish a one-stop certification and evaluation system that meets international standards, in response to the mandatory implementation of cyber security management systems (CSMS) and over-the-air software updates (OTA).

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) announced automotive cyber security regulations in 2021. Since July 2022, cyber security and over-the-air software updates have been mandatory for all new vehicles, and since July 2024, for all vehicles on the market. Korea is also set to mandate the implementation of cyber security management systems for all newly released vehicles starting in August.

As a result, domestic automakers and parts manufacturers seeking to enter the global market must obtain cyber security certification, making the establishment of domestic certification infrastructure an urgent task.

In response, South Jeolla Province is accelerating its strategy to attract and establish a future mobility certification center in Solaseado, based on the participation of Autocrypt Co., Ltd., the only domestic company qualified as a type approval authority for European export vehicles.

Solaseado Corporate City is considered an optimal location for a future mobility certification center, as it offers industrial land based on Renewable Energy 100 (RE100), the Yeongam International Motor Racing Circuit, research institutes such as the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH), and a large-scale site.

Through this research project, South Jeolla Province plans to establish a future vehicle full-cycle support platform integrating certification, demonstration, and testing and evaluation, and to simultaneously pursue strategies to expand infrastructure to attract companies in autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, and purpose-built vehicles (PBV).
