Boryeong City Wins Grand Prize for Local Taxes,
Dangjin City Takes Top Honors for Non-Tax Revenue
Chungnam Province has organized an event to share ideas that will lead the future of local tax administration, including the discovery of new tax sources and innovation in the taxation system in the areas of local taxes and non-tax revenues.
Chungnam Province announced on the 14th that it held the '2025 Chungnam Province Local Tax and Non-Tax Revenue Workshop' on the 13th at Splas Resom in Yesan County, with around 130 public officials from the province and 15 cities and counties in attendance.
This workshop, co-hosted with the Korea Institute of Local Finance, aimed to share creative taxation ideas and explore ways to expand independent financial resources through research presentations, as well as to enhance tax administration capabilities through discussions.
As a result of the research presentations, the grand prize in the local tax category was awarded to Boryeong City for its presentation on the theme, "When robots move, how should taxes move?"
Dangjin City and Asan City received excellence awards, while encouragement prizes went to Gongju City, Geumsan County, and Seosan City. Seosan City also received a special award from the Korea Institute of Local Finance.
In the non-tax revenue category, the grand prize was awarded to Dangjin City for its presentation on "Finding omitted shared water surface usage fees using artificial intelligence (AI) marine satellite maps."
Seosan City received the excellence award, while Yesan County and Nonsan City received encouragement prizes. Nonsan City also received a special award from the Korea Institute of Local Finance.
Boryeong City and Dangjin City, which received the grand prizes, will represent the province at the Local Tax Development Forum and the Local Finance Awards organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Lim Seongbeom, head of the provincial tax administration division, stated, "The highly effective research projects discovered in the field will serve as a stepping stone to innovate Chungnam's local tax policies," adding, "We will continue to strengthen our autonomous financial capabilities through such workshops in the future."
