According to CBS and other U.S. media outlets on May 13 (local time), police in Columbus, Ohio, arrested wrestler Kyle Snyder, 30, on charges of prostitution the previous day.
According to the police, Snyder was apprehended on May 9 during a sting operation conducted in the northern part of the city to crack down on prostitution. The police had posted an online advertisement soliciting prostitution, and Snyder was caught in the sting operation.
On the same day, at 8:15 p.m., Snyder arranged to meet the person he had contacted through the advertisement at a hotel. At the hotel, unaware that the person was a police officer, he handed over cash and solicited sex.
Snyder was released immediately after being apprehended at the scene and is scheduled to appear in court on May 19.
Snyder is the youngest gold medalist in American wrestling history. He won a gold medal at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Last year, at the 2024 Paris Olympics, he placed fifth after losing to an Iranian athlete in the bronze medal match.
Meanwhile, Snyder's representatives have not commented on the incident.
