Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced on May 14 that it has signed a business agreement with JH Global, a company specializing in research and development of eco-friendly materials. JH Global develops high-performance solutions based on photocatalytic core technology, which can be applied to the flooring of apartment playgrounds.
Photocatalysts are substances that absorb light energy to induce chemical reactions, providing antibacterial, deodorizing, and heat-blocking effects. While existing products only respond to ultraviolet light, the technology jointly developed by the two companies can be effectively applied under visible light and both indoor and outdoor lighting.

According to the company, verification by an accredited testing agency showed that, compared to conventional urethane, the average floor temperature at midday can be lowered by approximately 11 degrees Celsius. The technology can remove up to 100% of volatile organic compounds, and nitrogen oxides are reduced to below permissible limits. Flooring materials using these rubber chips possess elasticity and durability, making them suitable for use as sustainable materials.
Under this agreement, the technology will be applied starting this year to outdoor playgrounds in complexes completed by Hyundai Engineering & Construction. It will also be used in landscaping facilities such as rest areas and communal yards. Hyundai Engineering & Construction stated, "We will create a safe and healthy play environment as well as a pleasant residential complex."
