Arrest Warrant Requested for Huh Kyungyoung
Just Five Days After Initial Application
On May 13, prosecutors requested an arrest warrant for Huh Kyungyoung, Honorary Representative of the National Revolutionary Party, on charges including fraud and quasi-forcible molestation.
The Criminal Division 4 of the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had requested an arrest warrant for Huh on charges of fraud, violation of the Political Funds Act, and quasi-forcible molestation. This comes five days after the Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency applied for an arrest warrant for Huh on May 8, after merging two cases involving fraud, violation of the Political Funds Act, and quasi-forcible molestation.
A pre-arrest interrogation (substantive warrant review) is expected to be held soon, once the court sets a date.
Previously, in December 2023, some followers at Huh's religious facility "Haneulgung" filed a complaint with the police, claiming that Huh and his associates had sold spiritual products at exorbitant prices far above cost, resulting in financial losses. In February last year, other followers accused Huh of inappropriately touching female followers under the pretext of counseling and filed a separate complaint.
The Gyeonggi Northern Provincial Police Agency, which is handling both cases, is investigating the fraud and Political Funds Act violation charges through the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Investigation Unit, while the quasi-forcible molestation charge is being investigated by the Women and Juvenile Crime Investigation Unit.
