Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Cho Sangrae) announced on the 13th that it held the "2025 Local Extinction Response Promotion System Strategy Meeting" on the 12th at the Daetongmaru Hall of the county office, with 32 attendees including members of the Public-Private-Academic Practical Council for Local Extinction Response, heads of departments promoting fund projects, practical team leaders, and representatives from service agencies.

The Local Extinction Response Strategy Meeting has served as a strong support network and local platform for discussing annual investment plans for the Local Extinction Response Fund since the launch of the Public-Private-Academic Cooperation Group in 2022, which includes 18 related organizations, to overcome the crisis of population decline in Gokseong County. In February, a public-private-academic workshop was held to gather a wide range of opinions from the local community regarding local extinction response. Based on this, a report meeting was held within the county office to identify new fund projects by department.

At the strategy meeting, the strategic direction and key projects for next year's Local Extinction Response Fund investment plan were shared through an interim service report to increase the chances of being selected as an excellent region for the fund. After the report, opinions on the investment projects were collected and in-depth discussions were held.

The main content of next year's investment plan is to focus investments in living hubs centered around Gokseong-eup to strengthen consumption and stays, and to vitalize local programs in order to increase the inflow of residential populations and further energize the region. In addition, the county plans to strengthen the job support system so that young parents participating in rural study programs and young entrepreneurs and farmers, who have contributed to population inflow, can settle in the region.

Meanwhile, from 2022 to 2025, the county has secured 47.2 billion won in funds (35.2 billion won from basic funds and 12 billion won from regional funds), the second highest amount in South Jeolla Province, and is promoting seven projects under three strategic tasks: vitalizing the inflow of living populations, creating and supporting youth jobs and settlement, and vitalizing the inflow of resident populations.

A county official stated, "The Local Extinction Response Fund is like timely rain for our county, providing resources to build a sustainable future despite difficult financial conditions each year. We will establish a highly complete investment plan so that the planned projects for local extinction response can proceed without setbacks, and we will do our utmost to be selected as an excellent region for the fund next year."
