Kim Submits Letter of Non-Attendance to Prosecution
in Response to May 14 Summons
Kim Keonhee, wife of former President Yoon Sukyeol, has stated that she is unable to comply with the prosecution's summons scheduled for May 14.
According to the legal community on May 13, Kim's legal team submitted a letter of non-attendance to the special investigation team on Myung Taegyun allegations at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jihyung) earlier that day. Kim's side reportedly argued that if the investigation into alleged interference in a particular party's nomination process proceeds, it could lead to speculative media reports and potentially influence an early presidential election.
Previously, the prosecution had sent Kim a summons, requesting her to appear at the prosecutor's office on May 14 as a suspect in violations of the Political Funds Act and the Public Official Election Act. Kim is suspected of having received poll results from political broker Myung Taegyun during the 2022 20th presidential election, and in return, intervening in the nomination of Kim Youngsun, former member of the People Power Party, as the candidate for Uichang District, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, in the National Assembly by-election that same year.
Kim is also suspected of having exerted influence to have Kim Sangmin, former prosecutor (currently a legal advisor to the National Intelligence Service), run as a candidate for Uichang District, Changwon, during the 22nd general election in April last year.
