This meeting is regularly organized by the Walkable City Bureau, which was newly established in July last year as the first of its kind in the country. The purpose is to clarify the direction for creating a walkable city and to strengthen the momentum for project implementation.
During the meeting, participants reviewed changes across the city, including roads, parks, rivers, and green spaces, as well as the progress of major projects. Key strategies and schedules for creating a pedestrian-friendly environment centered on citizens were also discussed. In particular, attendees reached a consensus on the need to strengthen interdepartmental collaboration and to reinforce their commitment to practical action.
Mayor Donggeun Kim stated, "A walkable city is a fundamental basis for enhancing the quality of life for citizens and moving toward a sustainable city," and urged, "I ask each department to take a more proactive approach so that citizens can truly feel the changes."
Uijeongbu City plans to continue pursuing various spatial innovations and policy initiatives to create a citizen-centered, walkable urban environment in the future.
