Naju City Launches Comprehensive Crackdown on Illegal Distribution of Naju Sarang Gift Certificates Naju City Hall Exterior View

Naju City in South Jeolla Province will strengthen on-site management and conduct usage inspections to ensure the reliability of local gift certificates.

According to Naju City on May 13, a comprehensive crackdown on merchants involved in illegal distribution will be conducted until May 23 to establish a sound distribution order for the local currency, 'Naju Sarang Gift Certificate.'

This crackdown is being carried out in accordance with the 'Act on the Promotion of the Use of Local Gift Certificates' and the 'Ordinance on the Management and Operation of Naju Sarang Gift Certificates.'

It is a large-scale, province-wide crackdown conducted simultaneously throughout South Jeolla Province, following the '2025 First Half Local Gift Certificate Illegal Distribution Crackdown Plan' of South Jeolla Province.

The city plans to focus on inspecting merchants suspected of illegal distribution, based on transaction records from November 2024 to May 2025.

The crackdown will be conducted through on-site visits, telephone investigations, and the verification of suspicious transactions in the system. If violations are detected, administrative measures such as cancellation of merchant registration and fines will be imposed, and, if necessary, cases will be referred to investigative authorities.

The crackdown targets include on-site inspections of merchants through monitoring of the integrated gift certificate management system, acts of receiving gift certificates through transactions exceeding actual sales amounts, refusal to accept gift certificates or discriminatory treatment against gift certificate holders, and cases where merchants purchase and exchange gift certificates under another person's name.

An official from Naju City stated, "Since local gift certificates are an important policy tool for small business owners in the region, we will strongly pursue crackdowns to establish a sound distribution order and eradicate illegal activities."
