Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) announced that it will officially launch the "Gagahoho" program, a community-based culture and arts education support project, starting in June.
The "Gagahoho" initiative was established for the first time this year to foster a healthy family leisure culture in response to the emergence of diverse family types. The project is overseen by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, and the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation was selected through a competitive process, securing a budget of 40 million won. By supporting everyday culture and arts education, the program aims to promote communication within families and bridge cultural gaps between regions and generations.
The project will run for five months starting in June. Eleven culture and arts programs will be held at six venues, including the Gwangjin Children's Theater and the Naru Art Center exhibition hall. The programs are designed for infants and children from newborns up to age nine, as well as their families, to participate together.
Local artists and professional instructors will offer free programs such as "Family Heart Communication Play," "Little Musicians' Atelier," "Baby Carrier Soul Dance Club," and "Dingdong Theater That Opens the Heart." The programs focus on play and hands-on experiences in various fields including art, music, dance, theater, and crafts, to spark interest in the arts and foster intimacy and bonding among family members.
Applications will be accepted online via the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation website from May 13 to May 20. Participants will be selected based on evaluation criteria, and the final results will be announced on May 27. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gwangjin Cultural Foundation.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, "We have designed these culture and arts programs so the whole family can enjoy them together. It is a meaningful opportunity to remind ourselves of the preciousness of family, which can be easy to forget when we are always together. I hope many residents will show interest and participate," adding, "We will continue to do our best to make Gwangjin District a place where all residents can smile together through programs that naturally blend into daily life."
