On May 13, Hyunseop Jung, Mayor of Jinhae District in Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, visited the site of Seongdongcheon, where disaster prevention construction is scheduled, to thoroughly inspect the site for any damage and review the maintenance plans.
Seongdongcheon is an area where nearby farmland was damaged due to river flooding during the extreme heavy rainfall in September last year. To prevent future disasters by securing the river’s cross-sectional flow area, a budget of 70 million KRW will be invested in the construction of a river box (L=16m, B=3m) and guardrails (L=16m), with the project set to begin in June and be completed in August.
Mayor Jung stated, "It is essential that the construction is conducted with integrity and fairness, and that strict process management is implemented to ensure the highest construction quality and to prevent safety accidents at the construction site." He added, "Since the river is closely related to the daily lives of citizens, we will make every effort to complete the construction promptly and ensure thorough disaster prevention."
