Pusan National University Selected for RISE Project... Secures 95.6 Billion KRW Over 5 Years to Become a Convergence Innovation Hub University

Establishing the 'Busan-style Open UIC' Focusing on Three Strategic Areas Including Future Mobility

Pusan National University (President Choi Jaewon) has been finally selected for the 'Regional Innovation-led University Support System (RISE)' project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of Education and Busan Metropolitan City, securing a total of 95.6 billion KRW in government funds and matching investments over five years.


The annual support alone amounts to 19.12 billion KRW.


This project aims to establish a comprehensive innovation system by nurturing talent to lead regional strategic industries and future new industries, advancing technology through university-industry-research collaboration, promoting entrepreneurship, and solving community issues.


Pusan National University will pursue a total of seven unit projects centered around four major initiatives: Talent Innovation, Industrial Innovation, Social Innovation, and University Innovation.


Specifically, these include ▲ cultivating practice-oriented master's and doctoral-level professionals ▲ establishing a university-industry-research R&D platform ▲ attracting and supporting global talent ▲ creating an innovation environment with citizen participation ▲ advancing the Busan Shared University ▲ opening up university infrastructure ▲ and implementing a student-centered educational innovation model.


In particular, Pusan National University plans to actively establish the 'Busan-style Open UIC (University-Industry Collaboration)' model, focusing on future mobility, digital technology, and extreme environment power semiconductors?fields that Busan City is strategically fostering. Through this, the university aims to nurture high-level talent tailored to local industries and become a hub for convergence and innovation among universities, industries, and research institutes.


On May 12, Busan Metropolitan City held the '5th Busan RISE Committee' meeting and elected Pusan National University as the co-chair university for the regional RISE project. At the meeting, the mayor of Busan and President Choi Jaewon jointly assumed the role of co-chair, sharing cooperation strategies among local universities and discussing future directions for the project.

President Choi Jaewon stated, "Being selected for the RISE project marks a turning point for Pusan National University to become a regional industry innovation platform," adding, "We will grow together with the region and develop into a university with global competitiveness."


Park Sanghoo, head of the Pusan National University RISE project group, also said, "We will drive innovation in regional strategic industries through university-industry-research collaboration and faithfully fulfill our responsibilities as a regional hub university."
