Yongsan District Fully Implements Comprehensive Summer Countermeasures

Proactive Response in Five Key Areas Including Heat Waves and Flood Disasters

Yongsan District in Seoul will fully implement its "2025 Comprehensive Summer Countermeasures" from May 15 to October 15. The district will proactively respond to abnormal weather and natural disasters through the cooperation of 22 departments across five areas: heat waves, flood control, safety, health, and resolving residents' inconveniences.

Yongsan District Fully Implements Comprehensive Summer Countermeasures Heeyoung Park, Yongsan District Mayor (third from the left), is explaining to residents while showing sediment from a rainwater inlet during the dredging site visit in Ichon 1-dong last month. Provided by Yongsan District Office.

This year, new cooling fog (mist-type cooling devices) will be installed near crosswalks, and the number of smart shade structures will be expanded. In flood-prone areas, road water level gauges and customized rainwater inlets have been introduced to preemptively remove drainage obstructions. In Hannam 3 District, 112 signs at risk of falling were removed at once to strengthen preparedness for heavy rain and strong winds.

The number of insect repellent sprayers and electric insect traps will be increased to 11 and 71 units, respectively, this year. The text alert service for food poisoning prevention will be extended by one month compared to last year and will operate until October. Starting this year, integrated pest control will be newly implemented, which includes immediate application of mosquito larvicide after cleaning septic tanks serving 20 or fewer people, as well as on-site pest control consulting for 300 households where mosquitoes are prevalent.

A dedicated task force for heat wave response will be established, and when a heat wave advisory is issued, the Heat Wave Countermeasure Headquarters will be activated to ensure the safety of seniors, residents of single-room dwellings, and other heat-vulnerable groups. A total of 87 cooling shelters will operate in the district, and 119 disaster assistants will strengthen welfare checks on seniors. When typhoon or heavy rain advisories are issued, the Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters will be activated to minimize property and human damage by providing rapid responses in areas such as emergency restoration, support for disaster victims, and traffic assistance. In preparation for the rainy season, pre-inspections will be conducted on sewage facilities such as sewer pipes, rainwater inlets, and rainwater pumping stations, as well as on steep slopes and aging buildings.

For safety measures, construction site safety management will be reinforced to prevent ground subsidence and damage from strong winds. Pre-inspections will also be conducted on 69 road facilities, 5 underpasses, 13 performance venues, 8 cultural heritage sites, 15 swimming pools, and 418 parks and green spaces to ensure residents can live with peace of mind.

To stabilize prices during the summer, the district will continue to inspect and newly designate "Good Price Stores." In preparation for potential power shortages due to surging electricity demand, energy conservation will be promoted in public offices and densely populated commercial areas. In addition, when ozone alerts are issued, the district will promptly disseminate information and implement ozone reduction measures tailored to each target group.

Heeyoung Park, Mayor of Yongsan District, stated, "We will do our utmost to minimize property and human damage for residents by maintaining thorough preparedness and response systems, even in the event of natural disasters such as heavy rain and heat waves."
