The lavender garden, where the festival takes place, features 66,000 French lavender plants with a total of 20 million flowers planted across a 35,341㎡ site. Surrounded by the sea and vast tidal flats, the garden evokes the image of a Mediterranean French lavender garden.
Kim Daein, acting mayor of Shinan County, stated, "The scent of lavender on Purple Island will offer a special experience that goes beyond a simple flower festival, allowing visitors to feel healing and inspiration with their whole being. I hope you will spend a fragrant May day with your family on Purple Island."
Purple Island was selected as one of the Best Tourism Villages by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in December 2021 and has been named twice among Korea's Top 100 Tourist Attractions (2021-2022, 2025-2026) by the Korea Tourism Organization.
