Gyeonggi Office of Education to Promote Out-of-School Education with Class, Credit, and Experience Recognition Programs

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will categorize and implement 'out-of-school education' into class-recognition, credit-recognition, and experience-recognition types.

On May 13, the Office announced that for subjects (creative experiential activities) or educational programs deemed difficult to operate within the school by the principal, 'Gyeonggi Out-of-School Education' will be divided and managed as follows: class-recognition type, credit-recognition type, and experience-recognition type.

The class-recognition type is an educational program in which elementary, middle, and high school students can participate during regular school hours and have their attendance recognized. It targets areas such as psychological, emotional, and social recovery, and multicultural fields, which the principal determines are difficult to operate within the school.

The credit-recognition type targets high school students and focuses on subjects or creative experiential activities that are considered difficult to offer within the school or through joint curricula between schools.

The experience-recognition type is an educational program that elementary, middle, and high school students can choose to participate in outside of regular school hours. These programs mainly cover areas such as character development, culture and arts, ecological environment, and career exploration.

Based on these types, the Office plans to expand out-of-school education through school-community and school-online linkages.

An official from the Office stated, "We will continue efforts to enhance and vitalize out-of-school education through field-oriented support such as developing and distributing operation guides and resource materials for out-of-school education, as well as conducting policy research."
