The 14th National Museum of Korea Association Academic Awards Ceremony Held
10 Museum Curators and 2 Institutions Selected as Recipients

On the morning of May 13, 2025, the National Museum of Korea Association held the 14th National Museum of Korea Association Academic Awards ceremony at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan, Seoul.


The selection process for the Academic Awards involved inviting submissions of research papers and exhibition catalogs published in 2024 by curators and academic staff at national, public, private, and university museums across the country.


This year, 10 individual researchers and 2 institutions were selected as recipients of the Academic Awards. The awards are divided into the following categories: Cheonma Award (1 recipient, prize of 10 million KRW), Geumgwan Award (3 recipients, prize of 5 million KRW), Eungwan Award (5 recipients, prize of 3 million KRW), and Special Award (2 institutions or departments, prize of 3 million KRW). No recipient was selected for the Cheonma Award, which is given for the most outstanding paper.

There are a total of four recipients of the Geumgwan Award: Youngwoo Kwon, Curator at the National Museum of Korea; Myeonghun Kim, Curator at the Gongju National Museum; Soyeon Shin, Senior Curator at the National Museum of Korea; and Onsik Yoon, Curator at the Chuncheon National Museum.

There are a total of six recipients of the Eungwan Award: Kim Hyunjung, Exhibition Operations Manager at the National Museum of Korean Contemporary History; Park Haksoo, Curator at the National Museum of Korea; Park Hyunju, Curator at the National Palace Museum of Korea; Jang Haerim, Researcher at the Dong-A Ilbo Newspaper Museum; Jo Eunjeong, Exhibition Research Team Leader at the Goryeo Celadon Museum; and Heo Hyeonguk, Education Manager at the National Museum of Korea.


The Special Award, which is given for outstanding exhibition catalogs published last year, was awarded to two institutions: Songpa Book Museum of Songpa-gu Office and Hanyang University Museum.


The National Museum of Korea Association is a public interest corporation that supports the National Museum of Korea. Through a culture of donations and contributions by those who love museums, it supports a variety of museum sponsorship projects, including artifact donations, academic research, education, and improvements to museum exhibition environments. The association is also actively engaged in public cultural projects such as promoting traditional culture.


The National Museum of Korea Association Academic Awards have been presented since 2007 to encourage academic research activities among curators and academic staff at national museums. Since 2022, eligibility for the awards has been expanded to include staff at national, public, and private museums across the country.
