Sancheong County Council Adopts Resolution Urging Attraction of New Pumped-Storage Power Plant

"This Resolution Embodies
the Earnest Wishes of Residents
for the Future of the Region"

The Sancheong County Council in South Gyeongsang Province announced on the 13th that it had adopted a resolution at the first plenary session of its 305th extraordinary meeting, urging the attraction of a new pumped-storage power plant to Sancheong County.

This resolution highlights that Sancheong County possesses optimal conditions as a site for a new power plant, in relation to the government's additional pumped-storage power plant construction plans announced through the "11th Basic Plan for Long-term Electricity Supply and Demand." The resolution also calls for active consideration by the government.

Sancheong County successfully completed and has been operating a 700MW-class pumped-storage power plant since 2001, contributing to the stabilization of the national power grid and the supply of eco-friendly energy. The region already has sufficient technical capabilities and related infrastructure. In addition, by linking with the existing power plant, transmission facility costs can be reduced, and the high proportion of state-owned land minimizes the burden of land compensation. Furthermore, as there is no need to construct additional roads, it is considered highly economical in terms of construction costs.

The Sancheong County Council particularly emphasized the high level of acceptance and support from local residents. Residents have experienced the benefits of economic revitalization and job creation brought by the existing pumped-storage power plant, and they have high expectations for the construction of a new plant.

Moreover, considering the reality of Sancheong County, which is struggling with population decline and aging, the council stressed that a new pumped-storage power plant could become an important opportunity to revitalize the region and attract younger generations.

The Sancheong County Council stated, "This resolution embodies the earnest wishes of the residents for the future of the region," and added, "We hope the government will make a positive decision by comprehensively considering the site conditions of Sancheong County and the support of its residents."
