Amended Ordinance to Take Effect from July
Congratulatory Grant Now Available for Multicultural Children Born Overseas
Uiseong County in Gyeongbuk has passed an ordinance amendment in the Uiseong County Council to ease the eligibility criteria for childbirth incentives, and will fully implement the revised standards starting in July 2025.
With this amendment, the requirement that both parents must be registered residents for childbirth incentives has been relaxed. Previously, both parents of the newborn had to have their registered addresses in Uiseong County for at least six months prior to the birth date. Now, only one parent needs to meet this condition.
Additionally, for multicultural families, a legal basis has been established to provide a childbirth congratulatory grant for children born overseas. Previously, only childcare support was available, but with this amendment, the congratulatory grant can also be provided.
However, the childbirth incentive will only be provided if the birth is registered in Uiseong County, and at least one parent must have had their registered address in Uiseong County for at least six months prior to the birth. This condition remains unchanged.
The support amount remains unchanged: a childbirth congratulatory grant of 1 million won, and up to 19 million won in total, including 300,000 won per month for 60 months. This is the highest level among counties in Gyeongbuk Province.
The first beneficiaries of the amended ordinance will be eligible for support starting in August 2025. Applications can be submitted from around the 10th of the month following the birth, and inquiries should be directed to the Youth Policy Division at Uiseong County Office.
Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "This is an institutional improvement aimed at reducing the financial burden of childbirth and childrearing," and added, "We will continue our administrative efforts to ensure that more families can receive tangible benefits."
