Busan Gijang-gun Selected for Ministry of Culture’s "Humanities on the Road" Program

Highlighting Nobel Literature and the Culture and Arts of Busan, the Refugee Capital
Two Humanities Programs to Be Held at Jeonggwan Library Starting in June

Gijang-gun in Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) has been finally selected for the "2025 Library Wisdom School and Humanities on the Road" public contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This contest is co-organized by the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service and the Korean Library Association and is a project aimed at popularizing the humanities and spreading culture through public libraries nationwide.

For this contest, Jeonggwan Library in Gijang-gun planned and was selected for two programs: the Wisdom School under the theme "Learning Wisdom from Nobel Literature," and Humanities on the Road under the theme "Culture and Art of Busan, the Refugee Capital."

The Wisdom School program consists of college-level humanities lectures, where participants read major works by Nobel Prize in Literature laureates together and engage in philosophical reflection.

In particular, reflecting the heightened national interest due to author Han Kang being mentioned as a Nobel Prize in Literature candidate, the program aims to provide an opportunity to reflect on life and society through world literature.

The Humanities on the Road program, under the theme "Busan Culture Blossoming Amidst Bombardment," focuses on the activities of artists during the Korean War and the cultural and artistic value of "Busan, the Refugee Capital." In addition to lectures, the program combines hands-on experiences and field trips, allowing participants to directly experience the pain of the era sublimated into art.

Governor Jung Jongbok stated, "With the selection for this public project, the library will be reborn as a space where local residents can communicate and reflect on life through the humanities," and added, "We will actively support residents so they can enjoy precious moments where books, people, and culture are connected."

The Wisdom School will be held a total of 12 times from June to October, and Humanities on the Road will be held a total of 11 times from August to October, both at Jeonggwan Library. For participation applications and detailed program information, please visit the Jeonggwan Library website or call by phone.
