Chungnam Office of Education Accelerates Establishment of Tentatively Named Hanyeoul School in Baebang-eup, Asan Perspective view of the tentatively named Hanyeoul School, newly planned by the Chungnam Provincial Office of Education./Provided by Chungnam Office of Education

The Chungnam Provincial Office of Education announced on May 12 that the plan to establish the tentatively named Hanyeoul School, which was being promoted in the border area between Asan and Cheonan, will accelerate now that the adjustment of the administrative district boundary has been completed.

The Hanyeoul School was planned to be built in the area of 647 Hyudae-ri, Baebang-eup, Asan, but part of the school site extended into Sinbang-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan, which caused difficulties in administrative procedures such as obtaining construction permits.

However, through close cooperation among related agencies including the Chungnam Office of Education, Chungnam Provincial Government, Cheonan City, and Asan City, the adjustment of the administrative boundary has been completed, allowing the project to move forward in earnest.

The adjustment of the boundary area for the establishment of Hanyeoul School involved transferring the part of the school site that was in Sinbang-dong, Cheonan to Asan, and transferring a portion of the road area in Hyudae-ri, Baebang-eup, Asan to Cheonan.

The plan to establish the tentatively named Hanyeoul School as a special public school, scheduled to open in March 2027, was formulated by the Chungnam Office of Education in January 2024 and passed the first central investment review in January this year.

Hanyeoul School will consist of a total of 29 classes, including 1 kindergarten class, 12 elementary school classes, 6 middle school classes, 6 high school classes, and 4 specialized classes. The administrative procedures are expected to be completed by August, after which full-scale construction will begin.

An official from the Provincial Office of Education stated, "Special schools in Cheonan and Asan have faced difficulties in providing high-quality education and in long-distance commuting due to the increasing number of students. With the establishment of the tentatively named Hanyeoul School, we expect to resolve the issue of overcrowded special schools and greatly improve the special education environment, as students will be able to commute to and from school over shorter distances."
