Gwangju Arboretum Invites Visitors to Enjoy Rare Wildflower Photo Exhibition

Photo Exhibition Runs Until June 8

On May 12, the Gwangju city government announced that it will hold the "Gwangju Municipal Arboretum × Baekdudaegan National Arboretum: Wildflower Photo Exhibition of Korea" at the Visitor Center of the Gwangju Municipal Arboretum until June 8.

This exhibition, which begins on May 13, is part of the "Traveling Exhibition" program of the Baekdudaegan National Arboretum. It has been organized to promote the spread of arboretum and garden culture, as well as to raise awareness of the value of forest biological resources.

The exhibition will feature 40 photographs of rare wildflowers that are difficult to encounter, including "Aegicheonma," which grows in the broadleaf forests of Jeonnam and Jeju regions; "Deungdaesihyo," found in the alpine and deep mountain meadows of Gangwon Province; "Sebultugukot," a Korean endemic species that grows on the foothills of Gyeongbuk, Gyeongnam, and Jeonnam; and "Kkeunkeunigwigae," a carnivorous plant native to the coastal wetlands of Jeonnam. The exhibition is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and is closed every Monday.

Lee Jungshin, Director of the Gwangju Municipal Arboretum and Garden Project Office, said, "We hope that this exhibition will introduce visitors to the diverse wildflowers native to Korea and raise awareness about the importance of plant conservation. We are committed to creating an arboretum where citizens and nature can come together through a variety of exhibitions and experiential programs."

Meanwhile, the Gwangju Municipal Arboretum opened on October 20, 2023, and was established by transforming unused land around the metropolitan sanitary landfill into a nature-friendly space. Currently, the arboretum conducts research on collecting, propagating, conserving, and managing local native plant genetic resources, and also operates a variety of citizen participation programs such as forest interpretation and experiential education.
