Until June 3...
Fire Safety Inspections at 839 Locations
Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Fire Headquarters, led by Chief Lee Osook, is set to implement comprehensive fire safety measures at voting and counting stations across the province ahead of the 21st presidential election.
According to Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters on May 12, these measures will be in effect for one month until the vote counting concludes on June 3. The focus is on eliminating fire hazards in advance and strengthening initial response readiness during the election period to create a safe environment where residents can vote with confidence.

First, fire safety inspections will be conducted at 839 locations, including 16 election commission offices, 242 early voting stations, 566 voting stations, and 15 counting stations throughout the province.
Key inspection items include ensuring the proper operation of automatic fire detection systems and firefighting equipment, verifying the removal of fire hazards, and checking the operational status and maintenance of emergency generators in case of power outages. Any deficiencies identified during the inspections will be addressed and corrected by May 29, before early voting begins.
Additionally, fire station chiefs and department heads will personally visit their respective voting and counting stations to conduct on-site inspections, while also providing autonomous safety management consulting to operational staff. For voting stations under construction, it is planned to recommend the suspension of hot work (such as welding and cutting) both prior to and on the day of the main vote.
Furthermore, each fire station will hold meetings with related agencies, including the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, local governments, and the election commission, to coordinate joint inspection items and establish an emergency contact network, thereby preparing an integrated response system for emergencies.
In addition, special emergency standby will be implemented from June 2 to 3, around the election period, with fire personnel and resources pre-deployed and mobile patrols strengthened. The plan also includes thorough preparation to ensure a swift response to any emergencies through close cooperation with related agencies.
Lee Osook, Chief of Jeonbuk Fire Headquarters, stated, "Ensuring the safety of voting and counting stations is a fundamental prerequisite for the exercise of citizens' precious voting rights," adding, "We will do our utmost to create a safe election environment by thoroughly preparing every step from prevention to response."
