Trump Announces "Gold Card" to Replace Investment Immigration
Musk Shares Gold Card Progress via Social Media
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that he is currently testing the computerized system for the "Gold Card," which offers U.S. permanent residency for $5 million (approximately 7 billion KRW). On the 11th (local time), Musk replied to a post about the Gold Card made by a netizen on X.
The netizen wrote, "Trump's $5 million visa is being realized through a digital infrastructure built by the government domain DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) and has already been integrated into the U.S. immigration system." In response, Musk commented, "We are quietly conducting tests to ensure the system operates properly," adding, "Once the testing is fully complete, it will be announced along with the president's statement." His reply confirmed the netizen's post and publicly revealed the progress of the Gold Card initiative.
Early last month, he showed White House reporters a physical gold card printed with his face image and announced, "It will be released within two weeks." However, the purchase procedure and system for the gold card have not yet been disclosed to the public. The photo is not related to the specific content of the article.
Previously, the U.S. daily The New York Times (NYT) reported in mid-April, citing sources, that DOGE team members and engineers were developing the necessary website and visa application procedures for the Gold Card in collaboration with staff from the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. President Donald Trump announced around February that he would abolish the existing EB-5 investor immigration program and implement the Gold Card policy, which grants permanent residency for $5 million. Early last month, he showed White House reporters a physical Gold Card printed with his face image and announced, "It will be released within two weeks." However, the purchase procedure and system for the Gold Card have not yet been disclosed to the public.

Meanwhile, under President Trump's directive, Musk has served as the head of DOGE. During Tesla's earnings conference call last month, he stated that starting in May, he would reduce his DOGE-related duties and devote more time to managing Tesla. At that time, he added, "As long as the president wants it and deems it useful, I expect to spend one or two days a week on government work."
