Providing Opportunities for STEM Major Experiences
...Promoting Enrollment in Science and Engineering Fields

On May 12, National Mokpo University (President Song Hacheol) announced that the R-WeSET Project Group for the Honam Jeju Region in Jeonnam operates the "Visiting Laboratory" program every year for female middle and high school students in Jeonnam, as well as island and rural areas, to provide opportunities to experience STEM majors and to promote enrollment in science and engineering fields.

The 2025 "Visiting Laboratory" program will select a total of 16 schools in Jeonnam and the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, develop educational content in seven fields (chemistry, earth science, mechanical engineering, information security, marine construction, computer science, and environment), and conduct education focused on theory, experiments, and hands-on practice.

This year's program has been actively running since May 1, primarily at schools located in towns and townships that were selected for participation. The educational topics include: ▲Eco-friendly hydrogen energy ▲The story of salt in our favorite snacks ▲Coexistence of humans and robots in a changing world ▲Finding hidden information ▲Robot programming utilizing artificial intelligence ▲Predicting values with simple regression and linear functions ▲Treasure hunting in the environment: microorganisms are everywhere. These topics are designed to capture students' interest.

In addition, satisfaction surveys are conducted before and after the program to reflect the opinions of students and schools. The project aims to further develop the program to achieve higher levels of satisfaction and engagement in the future.

R-WeSET 2.0 (Regional STEM Female Talent Development Project) is a project that provides science and engineering experience opportunities to middle and high school students to encourage them to pursue STEM fields, and supports the development of outstanding female scientists and engineers by strengthening the academic capabilities of female students in universities and supporting their entry into society. This project is being carried out with active collaboration and budget support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, Jeollanam-do, and the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
