Starting from May 12, Gwangju City will hold an event to provide free geographically indicated agricultural products from the Jeonnam region to pregnant women and families who have given birth this year, on a first-come, first-served basis.

This initiative is being carried out in cooperation with the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and the Gwangju Foundation for Women and Family. The aim is to support healthy eating habits for pregnant women and new families, and to promote the consumption of local agricultural products.

The beneficiaries are pregnant women or families who have given birth since January 1 of this year. To participate, they can solve a simple quiz on the 'Gwangju Aikiwoom' platform and submit supporting documents such as a pregnancy confirmation or a baby handbook.

The event is limited to the first 1,000 households. Each selected household will receive a free set of five geographically indicated agricultural products from the Jeonnam region, valued at 20,000 won. The set consists of five representative geographically indicated agricultural products from Jeonnam, including Yeonggwang red pepper powder, Boseong early-harvest rice nurungji, Yeosu Dolsan gat kimchi, Gokseong melon, and Yeonggwang mugwort songpyeon. The items will be randomly combined and delivered directly to each household by the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service.

Earlier, on April 10, the city signed a business agreement for the implementation of this project with the Jeonnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and the Gwangju Foundation for Women and Family.

Lee Youngdong, Director of the Women and Family Bureau, stated, "By providing high-quality local agricultural products to pregnant women and new families, we expect to create a healthy environment for child-rearing and bring vitality to local farms. We will continue to actively address the issue of low birth rates through various campaigns and support policies."
