Lockdshields is an international cyberattack and defense exercise hosted annually since 2010 by the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) to strengthen cyber crisis response cooperation among member states.

This year, from the 5th to the 9th, South Korea participated in the exercise with the National Intelligence Service at its center, joined by the Financial Security Institute, the Ministry of National Defense, and a total of 47 organizations from the public, private, and military sectors, involving more than 170 participants.

The Financial Security Institute sent a team of 11 cyberattack defense experts, including employees from the RED IRIS team composed of elite white hat hackers and staff with experience winning domestic and international hacking defense competitions. These experts demonstrated their capabilities by identifying and responding to vulnerabilities in web and server environments, analyzing the causes and routes of attacks, and defending against threats in real time.

In addition, the Institute applied cutting-edge technology to the exercise by directly developing and implementing an AI-based malware analysis model and establishing a multi-layered defense system to protect national critical infrastructure. In particular, the team achieved outstanding results in the field of digital forensic incident response, successfully tracking the nation-state actors set up in the virtual scenario through malware analysis.

Park Sangwon, President of the Financial Security Institute, stated, "Based on our strong security capabilities, we have participated in the international cyber defense exercise for four consecutive years and have played a pivotal role, especially in the fields of digital forensics and system defense." He added, "We will actively leverage the experience and insights gained from this competition to further strengthen our financial security response capabilities and do our utmost to create a safe financial environment."
