Superintendent Kim Seokjun Attends 'Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Week Proclamation' Event in Busan

Promise to Strengthen Cyber Gambling Prevention Education
Linked to School Curriculum

Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of Busan Education, attended the 'Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Week Proclamation Ceremony' held on May 9 at the main auditorium of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, where he emphasized the importance of preventive education.

This event, themed 'The Inaugural Year of Youth Gambling Problem Prevention Week, Announcing the Beginning,' was organized as the first relay event to raise public awareness about youth gambling issues and to promote preventive activities.


Approximately 300 participants attended the event, including Lee Junseung, Deputy Mayor of Busan; Kim Suhwan, Chief of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency; Shin Mikyung, President of the Korea Center on Gambling Problems; Lee Jinsik, Secretary General of the Integrated Supervisory Commission on Speculative Industries; Lee Seongrim, President of Busan Facilities Corporation; as well as students and representatives from related organizations.


The main programs included: ▲ operation of experience booths for youth gambling problem prevention ▲ signing of a memorandum of understanding among Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, and the Korea Center on Gambling Problems ▲ an OX quiz and youth talk concert ▲ a preventive musical performance. These activities received a positive response from the participants.


In his greeting, Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "The youth gambling problem is a serious social issue that can no longer be overlooked. Families, schools, and local communities must work together and collaborate." He added, "Based on the newly enacted and revised 'Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Student Gambling Prevention Education Ordinance' this year, we will pursue more practical, prevention- and treatment-centered policies."


He further said, "We will strengthen cyber gambling prevention education linked to the school curriculum and support customized prevention programs for each school in cooperation with specialized agencies."


The Korea Center on Gambling Problems is a public institution that provides prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation services for gambling issues. It currently offers free counseling services for youth experiencing gambling problems and their families.
